Cattle Mostly Higher at Midday![]() Live cattle futures are mixed so far on Tuesday, with contracts down a nickel to 27 cents higher in the nearbys. Today was first notice day for October live cattle, with no deliveries issued. Cash trade has yet to be reported this week. Feeder cattle futures are extending the gains on Tuesday, with contracts down $1.10 to $1.75 at midday. The CME Feeder Cattle Index was back up $0.90 at $363.47 on October 3. The weekly OKC feeder cattle auction had 5,467 head sold on Monday. Sales on feeder steers were steady, with heifers firm to $4 higher and lighter heifers down $1-4. Steer calves were up $10-20. USDA Wholesale Boxed Beef prices continued higher in the Tuesday morning report, with the Chc/Sel spread widening to $15.62. Choice boxes were up $1.19 at $364.53, while Select was 94 cents higher to $348.91. USDA federally inspected cattle slaughter for Monday was estimated at 101,000 head. That was 12,000 head below last week and 9,385 shy of the same week last year.
